Helen Carpenter (Levchak)
Age 82 of Johnson City, NY, left her husband of 59 years, Robert, and family to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 7, 2016.
Helen is now reunited with her daughter, Marina Carpenter Majeski, parents Mary and John Levchak, sister Mary Klym and brother in-law Harry, brother George Levchak and sister in-law Ann, brother John Levchak, sister-in-laws Joan and Marie Levchak, and brother-in-laws, Cal Wanser and James Scovel. Helen is survived by her children, Gregory (Barbara) Carpenter, Tamara Hujar, Jeffrey (Kimberly) Carpenter, and Scott (Tricia) Carpenter. She is also survived by loving grandchildren Corinne (Justin), Colin (Michele), Tina (Michael), Ryan, Sara, Justin, Casey, Brittany, Megan, Jacob, and three great grandchildren, Jayden, Camryn, and Mave. She is survived by her siblings, Ann Wanser, Charles Levchak, Joseph (Marie) Levchak, and Marlene Joanne Scovel, as well as many nieces and nephews. Helen honored the commitment she made to her mother to hold the family together by opening her home every Christmas, Easter, or special occasion. She was a mother who commanded respect and understanding from her children. Helen was also well-loved by her family at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, where she taught church school, sang in the choir, and managed the hall kitchen for many years, always striving to satisfy everyone. She had a God-given gift for comforting the sick and easing the burden of anyone in need. She loved her time volunteering at the Grand Care Daycare Center. She was well respected by all for her kindness and service. Helen funeral services will be held on Monday 11am at Dormition of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, 54 Baxter Street, Binghamton Steven Belonick and Protopresbyter James Dutko officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday 3-6pm at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Street, Binghamton.
